We joined this year and it has been great for me. We bought some of the curriculum on CD, which the teachers loved! I also loved it because it cut down on curriculum guide copying which is always a hassle. They have been helpful in the extreme particularly in processing 501c3 donation checks.

Materials have been very useful! I use the CD a lot. If something comes up quickly, I look to see if there are any materials on a topic or holiday to make available for the teachers, or to add to something I'm already sending out.

As a participant in the NIE Institute, I can say I find the services useful for my program. I haven't used them all but it is relatively inexpensive for what you receive. I feel as though I've saved money in just one year. The curricula are educationally sound and Doug understands the business side of NIE too and the material reflects that.

Doug, I think your ideas are fabulous. As someone who just completed 20 years in NIE, I appreciate your efforts to tie together so many loose ends for the benefit of all. For my first few years in NIE, I had no one to turn to except a handful of colleagues. Your disk saved me a year's worth of work!

If, for no other reason, you get the "Reading First" guide, the membership is worth it. We've also had very positive response, and additional newspaper orders, as a result of having the Century of Flight supplementary materials and the newspaper "cards". Curriculum materials provided are sound and very helpful to have on hand for "spur of the moment" needs as well as staples.
I'm currently working to get our paperwork ok'd for grants. Our local community foundation has reorganized and I needed a different 501C3 pass through account to have funds allocated to us relinquished. I don't anticipate any problems, given the materials provided.
Doug Alexander's work is truly appreciated by me and mine!

This piece (Thoughtful Literacy) is unbelievable! I wouldn't know where to start giving you feedback except that Darla Shaw is the best thing to happen to NIE ever! Thanks for making this good stuff happen. My teachers really loved "Reading First."

TESTIMONIALS ON BULK CD PROGRAM
We are very pleased and impressed with the way these came out and will certainly continue to use the NIE Institute in the future. Putting these materials on CD has saved us a ton of money. Not to mention the other resources made available to us. The print charge for the larger FCAT manual alone last year worked out to around $12.00 each. So this is great!

...we introduced the CD at that workshop, it was well received, and I believe is the way of the future: replace bulky curriculum guides with a slim disk a teacher can pop into a unit, print out the day's activity, and then put it away until the next time. Whatever resources you decide to offer, offer them on CD if you can--you've made a believer out of me. Thanks.

Your CD has been terrific! Your CDs helped my budget. It was far less expensive to share a wide variety of resources on the CD than it was in previous years to share one curriculum on paper by mail.
You've also whet the teachers' appetites. What's happening in some schools is that the technology person posts a list of what's on the CDs. Teachers identify what they want, and the techie prints out copies of each teachers' personal requests for them. That gives me more "reach" inside each school.
Please keep up that great work!
